Hmmm - now let me get this straight. For years, Catholic school nuns around the globe taught youngsters that masturbation could lead to blindness. Good gawd - they may actually have been on to something considering the latest news that the FDA looking into blindness-Viagra/Cialis link. Maybe Pfizer and Eli Lilly should have checked with the Catholic Church on this one.

But it's really common sense when you think about it. Everyone was all up in arms over Janet Jackson's boob in 2003. The Super Bowl ad that disgusted me was the Cialis ad, which I and I assume millions of others heard for the first time. It requires the disclaimer "if you have an erection lasting more than four hours, please seek medical assistance." Ya think? And forgive me for being naive, but do men really need to be told that? I think the disclaimer should have been to women (or young Catholic boys) that if your WITH a man taking Cialis and they have an erection that lasts longer than four hours, protect yourself and head to the nearest emergency room if you need to.

It may be harsh but I think anyone who takes chemicals to enhance this natural function should be willing to live with the consequences. Even if it is blindness. Nature is an amazing thing - if you have to force blood to one area of the body, it stands to reason another area of the body is going to suffer. Nature abhors a vacuum -- as do I.

PS - In light of this news, maybe VA Gov. Mark Warner should reconsider his anti-Viagra stance for violent sex-offenders. I personally believe castration is the appropriate punishment for "violent sex offenders" but blindness is just as effective come to think of it. Harsh? I don't think so.
